Education

He studied at the State Conservatoire of Music in Perugia, graduating in violin in 1992. In November 2006 he earned a second-level degree in Musical Disciplines, specialising in performance and composition, with highest honours. His teachers included Alfredo Fiorentini, Massimo Marin, Paolo Franceschini and Enrico Gatti, with whom he explored historically informed Baroque performance practice.

Concert career

Chamber music lies at the heart of a career that has taken him to more than twenty countries and to venues including Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Grand Hall of Cairo Opera House, Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University in Chicago, the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall in Ljubljana, and concert halls in Moscow, St Petersburg, Washington, London and Chengdu.

Solo work and orchestras

He has frequently appeared as a soloist. Highlights include a United States tour with the Chicago Sinfonietta in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3, K 216. He is a founding member of the Perugia Chamber Orchestra and worked regularly with I Solisti di Perugia, as well as with numerous Italian symphony and chamber orchestras.

Collaborations

He has shared the stage with artists from classical music, jazz, popular song and film.

Other musical languages

From film music to tango and jazz, he has performed at the Cumbre Mundial del Tango in Uruguay, at Birdland in New York and at festivals including Umbria Jazz, Pescara Jazz, Ischia Jazz and Bari Jazz. In 2015 he took part in the ecumenical concert in St Peter’s Square alongside Andrea Bocelli and Noa.

Composition and publications

He writes original music, transcriptions and orchestrations. His most frequently performed works include Satortango, Songoj de la maro, Un día de Fiesta, Malagueña, Preghiera, Romanza and Piccola Serenata. His educational publications include 100 Rhythmic and Melodic Dictations, Sight Singing and a study of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Teaching and artistic direction

After teaching violin, chamber music and solfège at several Italian conservatoires, he is now a tenured professor of Music Theory, Rhythm and Aural Skills at the “F. Morlacchi” Conservatoire in Perugia. He gives masterclasses in Italy and China and has served for more than a decade as artistic director of the “San Barnaba in Concerto” season. Since 2025 he has been an endorser of violins by Beijing luthier Wang Zhiguo.
